Bogotá man on home detention bracelet arrested after armed robbery
Police in Bogotá detained a 31‑year‑old man wearing an electronic ankle bracelet issued by the National Penitentiary and Prison Institute (INPEC) after he carried out an armed robbery in the La Soledad neighborhood of the Teusaquillo district on the night of 27 June 2026. The suspect rode a motorcycle and brandished a revolver to threaten two pedestrians, stealing valuables later valued at roughly eight million Colombian pesos. Community surveillance patrols recovered the stolen items, seized the weapon and immobilized the motorcycle, and the victims received their property back. Court records show the offender was under house‑arrest for prior theft and illegal firearm charges, making the incident a breach of his home‑detention conditions.
Authorities highlighted the operation as part of ongoing efforts to improve public safety and reduce high‑impact crimes in the capital.
