Bogotá Mayor blocks public transport transfer time extension

Bogotá Mayor Carlos Fernando Galán has objected to a project approved by the City Council that sought to extend the transfer window for the city's integrated public transport system. The proposal, introduced by Councilman Rubén Torrado, aimed to increase the time allowed for transfers between TransMilenio, SITP, and TransMiCable from 125 to 150 minutes without requiring a new fare.

The initiative was intended to provide passengers with more flexibility, particularly due to ongoing infrastructure works in Bogotá that can lengthen travel times. However, the Mayor's administration, including the Legal Secretariat and the Mobility Secretariat, argued that the City Council lacks the authority to mandate such changes in transfer times.

Councilman Torrado maintains that the project merely sets guidelines for the District to study and apply the measure temporarily rather than imposing a direct order. The project will now return to the Council for further discussion.
