Bogotá Metro Line 1 fined for delays as it hires over 1,000 construction workers
The Metro de Bogotá imposed a fine of roughly 358.5 million Colombian pesos on the Metro Línea 1 concessionaire after the contractor failed to complete the Ciudad Kennedy station by the contractual deadline of 31 January 2026. Although a 60‑day extension was granted, work remained unfinished, prompting the penalty and a warning of further sanctions for additional delays.
Separately, the concessionaire, in partnership with the Secretaría Distrital de Desarrollo Económico, announced a recruitment drive for more than 1,000 positions to support the ongoing construction of the first line. Vacancies span roles from general labor to specialized technical trades and are focused on work sites along Avenida Villavicencio, Primero de Mayo, Calle Primera and Avenida Caracas. Applications are to be submitted in person on 6 August 2026 at the Polideportivo Bosa Palestina.
