Bogotá officials address security concerns in TransMilenio system
In Bogotá, Councilman Juan David Quintero has called for urgent intervention in the TransMilenio public transport system following reports of increased security concerns. A driver reported that a significant portion of buses and stations are occupied by homeless individuals using the vehicles to sleep, creating challenges for operators and passengers.
The District Secretariat of Social Integration acknowledged 21 reported cases of aggression against users allegedly linked to the homeless population, though it noted these incidents represent approximately 0.2% of the homeless population in Bogotá. The situation has sparked debate regarding whether current policies allow for the free entry of homeless individuals into the transit system.
