Bogotá opens new pedestrian bridge near El Edén shopping center

A new pedestrian bridge has entered service over Avenida Boyacá at Calle 12B in Bogotá, located in front of the El Edén shopping center in the Kennedy district. The project, part of the Alsacia Implementation Plan, was developed with the support of the Instituto de Desarrollo Urbano (IDU).

The 170-meter-long metal structure is designed to improve safety and mobility for pedestrians, cyclists, and people with reduced mobility. It features specialized rails on the western stairs to assist cyclists in moving their bicycles. The bridge includes differentiated signaling: a blue zone for pedestrians and shopping center access, and a red strip for cyclists and people with disabilities.

The opening of the bridge allows for the removal of a temporary traffic light that had been in place since 2019. This change is expected to improve traffic flow for approximately 127,000 vehicles that use the corridor daily. The project is estimated to benefit more than 92,000 residents in the Villa Alsacia and Nuevo Techo areas. According to IDU Director Orlando Molano, the project was managed by Construcciones Planificadas and had been in development for over eight years.
