Bogotá police officer sentenced for sleeping on duty

A National Police patrolman in Bogotá has been sentenced to six months in prison after admitting to sleeping during his duty shift. The incident took place in November 2025 at the CAI Porvenir, located in the Usme district.

Security camera footage provided evidence of the officer sleeping on three separate occasions during his shift. In one notable instance around 5:45 a.m., the officer used a Bogotá city flag as a blanket while sleeping.

The 1305th Military and Police Criminal Court ruled that the officer failed to fulfill his professional obligations to remain alert and available. The officer accepted responsibility for his actions during the judicial process.
