Bogotá reports surge in femicide risk assessments despite drop in killings
Between January and June 2026 Bogotá recorded six femicide murders, a 29 % reduction compared with seven in the same period of 2025. At the same time, the city's forensic service performed 1,254 risk assessments for potential femicide cases, almost double the 626 assessments registered a year earlier. The neighbourhoods of Bosa, Ciudad Bolívar, Kennedy and Suba accounted for 40 % of the assessments, and 43 % of the evaluated cases were classified as extreme risk. Authorities are urging early reporting of gender‑based violence to activate protection routes and prevent fatal outcomes.
The rise in risk assessments follows the June 13 discovery of the body of 19‑year‑old Thalía Ureña in a Ciudad Bolívar residence. Police say the victim, originally from Ortega, Tolima, was likely targeted by her former partner, who fled after the incident. Protesters gathered outside the prosecutor’s office demanding justice for Thalía and other victims.
Officials stress that while the raw number of femicide killings has fallen, the heightened alert level and growing number of risk evaluations signal continuing concern over women’s safety in the capital.
