Bogotá sees 52% rise in child domestic violence cases in early 2026
Bogotá councilor Julián Sastoque warned that domestic‑violence reports in the capital jumped 34.7% between January and May 2026, rising from 16,966 to 22,847 cases. The increase was especially sharp for children, with 3,244 reported incidents – a 51.8% rise over the same period in 2025 – meaning a case is recorded roughly every ten minutes. Sastoque called the trend an “emergency of protection,” urging the city administration and the Instituto Colombiano de Bienestar Familiar (ICBF) to boost territorial presence, accelerate rights‑restoration processes and ensure no report goes unanswered. He announced a new political‑control debate to scrutinise the agencies responsible for handling these cases.
