Bogotá, Soacha add 269 electric buses and a huge river culvert to TransMilenio

TransMilenio will receive 269 new electric buses – 157 articulated and 112 bi‑articulated – to serve the Soacha‑Bogotá corridor. The buses will be charged at solar‑powered stations at the El Vínculo hub in Soacha and at the Calle Sexta hub in Bogotá, increasing fleet capacity by 12% and adding about 50,300 seats while cutting CO₂ emissions.

As part of the same expansion, a 56‑metre long, 9‑by‑7‑metre prefabricated concrete box culvert is being installed to channel the Soacha River beneath the highway. Built from roughly 80 modules weighing 15 tonnes each, the structure can handle a 100‑year flood flow of 16.7 m³/s and allows uninterrupted traffic on the Autopista Sur during construction. Both projects are components of Phases II, III and VI of the TransMilenio extension, aimed at modernising mass transit in the capital region.
