Bogotá Transit Closure and Lima Airport Access Project Face Construction and Funding Hurdles

In Bogotá, the temporary Marly station of the TransMilenio bus system will close its north pedestrian access and reduce lane capacity on Avenida Caracas as part of construction for the Metro Line 1 southern ticket hall. Passengers are advised to use the south-side entrances and cross at the intersection of Avenida Caracas and Calle 48 while the works continue.

In Lima, the Vía Expresa Santa Rosa—intended to connect the new Jorge Chávez International Airport with the city—faces a financing shortfall. The Ministry of Economy has not allocated the full budget, leaving a gap of about S/ 285 million, which threatens delays and increased costs for the four‑kilometre elevated viaduct that would link the airport with the Costa Verde and Callao port.

Both projects illustrate challenges in urban transport infrastructure development, with Bogotá adjusting operations to accommodate metro construction and Peru grappling with budget constraints that could impede the airport’s high‑standard road access.
