Bogotá unveils ‘La Rockera’ sculpture made from recycled bullets

To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Rock al Parque festival, a new bronze sculpture titled ‘La Rockera’ has been permanently installed at Bogotá’s Parque Simón Bolívar. Created by artist Rafael Melo, also known as Maquiamelo, the monument stands approximately 3.87 meters tall and weighs 1,200 kilograms.

The sculpture is unique for its composition, having been cast using approximately 30,000 recycled bullets. This choice of material aims to transform objects associated with violence into a symbol of music, freedom, and collective memory. The artwork features a plaque listing local, national, and international bands that have performed at the festival, along with a QR code for further information.

According to Melo, the inspiration for the female figure came from observing the growing role of women in the rock scene. The installation coincides with the city's preparations for the next edition of the festival.
