Global initiatives promote sustainable mobility and road safety

Various regions across Latin America and Europe are implementing initiatives focused on road safety, sustainable mobility, and urban transformation.

In the Dominican Republic, the National Institute of Transit and Land Transport (INTRANT) is hosting the 9th National Sustainable Mobility Week. Supported by the French Development Agency and the European Union, the program promotes efficient, eco-friendly transport through education, technical training, and activities like ‘World Car-Free Day’.

Other regional efforts include road safety education for schoolchildren in Ciudad Rodrigo, Spain, and awareness campaigns in Tigre, Argentina, using simulators to demonstrate the dangers of driving under the influence. In Colombia, cities like Rionegro and Pasto are holding mobility weeks featuring pedestrian walks and bicycle tours, while Bogotá is updating regulations for urban development impact studies.

In Nicaragua, the National Police reported over 1,000 collisions in a single week, highlighting the ongoing need for traffic enforcement and education. Meanwhile, in Mexico, authorities in Progreso are conducting crime prevention talks for primary students to improve community safety.
