Bogotá water utility EAAB promotes digital billing and removes 45 tons of waste from drains

The Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Bogotá (EAAB) renewed a partnership with the science museum Maloka to encourage residents to switch from paper water bills to digital ones. Households that adopt electronic billing receive an immediate benefit: a two‑for‑one discount on tickets to Maloka’s interactive exhibitions. EAAB prints roughly 13.8 million paper sheets each year, equivalent to about 70 tons of cellulose, so the digital shift aims to cut paper use and lower the city’s ecological footprint.

In a separate effort, EAAB and the public water company Aguas de Bogotá cleaned 977 drainage sumps in the Kennedy locality, extracting around 45 tons of solid waste, debris and single‑use plastics. The operation improves storm‑water flow and strengthens the city’s drainage infrastructure, reducing flood risk as part of ongoing preventive maintenance.

Both initiatives are part of EAAB’s broader strategy to modernize public services, promote environmental sustainability and engage citizens in the care of urban infrastructure.
