Bogotá’s EAAB recovers 13 M m³ water, retains AAA rating amid citywide cut plans

The Empresa de Acueducto y Alcantarillado de Bogotá (EAAB) reported recovering more than 13 million cubic metres of unbilled water through commercial, administrative and operational audits, equivalent to the monthly consumption of about 900,000 middle‑income families. The recovery effort has focused mainly on residential connections (62 % of the volume) and has addressed over 5,100 cases of water fraud, with the highest incidence in the Kennedy district.

Fitch Ratings reaffirmed EAAB’s AAA (col) and F1+ (col) sovereign‑level credit ratings with a stable outlook, noting the utility’s strong cash flow, near‑100 % network coverage and low technical losses. The rating underlines the district’s capacity to finance large environmental projects such as the Canoas wastewater‑treatment plant.

In parallel, EAAB scheduled a series of water‑supply interruptions across multiple Bogotá neighborhoods and nearby municipalities from 16 to 18 June 2026 to perform pipe repairs and maintenance. The cuts, lasting up to 24 hours per area, affect thousands of households, with priority service being maintained for hospitals and other critical facilities. The utility will provide tanker trucks for affected residents.
