Bogotá’s Ciudad Bolívar Provides Emergency Water to Southern Settlements

The local government of Ciudad Bolívar in Bogotá activated an inter‑institutional contingency plan to deliver provisional drinking water to hundreds of families living in informal settlements in the south of the capital. The Emergency Water Supply program, ordered in response to a judicial ruling, uses tankers and temporary networks to serve areas such as Brisas del Volador, Pescadito Sector A, Brisas de Bella Flor, Topacio Sector A, El Triunfo, El Triángulo, San Ignacio, La Yuquera, Tierra Nueva and Tucanes. The city’s water utility (EAAB) set up a community tent and information point to guide household heads on delivery schedules and safe storage.

The supply is strictly temporary, does not confer any legal ownership or regularisation of the informal settlements, and will continue while formal titling and urban‑sanitation processes proceed in the courts. Technical teams from the District Habitat Secretariat monitor water quality and conduct workshops on efficient use and maintenance of the provisional infrastructure.
