Bohol tourism faces decline amid rising cost concerns
Discussions regarding the cost of tourism in Bohol have intensified following social media reports of high dining expenses. A traveler shared an experience on Threads and Reddit involving a ₱1,650 charge for a single pompano fish in Panglao, sparking online debate about the rising costs of food, accommodation, tours, and transportation in the province.
Other travelers have contributed to the conversation, including one report of a ₱2,200 bill at a local eatery. While these individual instances have not been independently verified as representative of all establishments, they coincide with data showing a significant slowdown in Bohol's tourism sector.
According to the Bohol Provincial Tourism Office, tourist arrivals in the first quarter of 2026 saw a 59 percent decline compared to the same period in 2025. During this period, domestic arrivals dropped by 73 percent and foreign arrivals decreased by approximately 40 percent. Hotel occupancy also fell by 14 percent. Tourism officials attribute the decline to various factors, including rising fuel costs and overall higher travel expenses.
