Bohumín-Chałupki border bridge undergoes reconstruction
The Czech section of the old border bridge connecting Bohumín and Chałupki has been removed to make way for a new structure. The bridge will remain completely closed to traffic until the end of August 2027.
This is a joint cross-border project where the Polish side is repairing its section while the Moravian-Silesian Region reconstructs the Czech portion and the central pier. The reconstruction aims to improve load capacity and safety. Work includes repairing pillars and concrete parts, replacing main structural elements, installing new waterproofing, laying new asphalt, and modernizing sidewalks, lighting, and traffic signals.
The Czech portion of the construction is valued at 28.67 million CZK. Funding is provided by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg Czech-Poland 2021–2027 program, supplemented by a state subsidy of approximately 2 million CZK. A detour route via a secondary border bridge will be in place during the works.
