Božidar Stamenković’s Orchard Vandalized in Radonjica, Serbia
Eighty‑five‑year‑old Božidar Stamenković, a longtime fruit grower in the Radonjica area, discovered that 228 of his pear trees had been cut down and sprayed with a destructive herbicide. The damage, which occurred just weeks before the scheduled harvest, is estimated at 5.2 million Serbian dinars. Stamenković reported the incident to police and said the orchard, covering four and a half hectares of pears, apples and cherries, now requires heavy machinery to remove the stumps and additional inputs such as fertilizer and irrigation. He plans to install video surveillance to prevent further attacks, while local residents express concern over the crime in the farming community.
