Boiling Water in Kitchen Sinks Can Shorten PVC Pipe Lifespan, Experts Warn

Plumbing specialists caution that repeatedly pouring boiling water down a kitchen sink can damage PVC pipes. The high temperature causes the material to expand, leading over time to deformation, micro‑cracks and a reduced service life, which raises the risk of costly leaks. They advise letting hot water cool for a few minutes, or running cold water while pouring, and to avoid using boiling water as a regular cleaning method.

A separate home‑care tip recommends blending orange peel with baking soda to create a mildly abrasive, aromatic paste. The mixture can help dissolve light grease, neutralise odors and clean surfaces such as stainless‑steel sinks, tile grout, plastic containers and other kitchen fixtures. Users should test the paste on a small hidden area, apply it sparingly with a soft sponge, let it act briefly, then wipe clean with a damp cloth.
