Boké regional hospital inaugurates new mental health unit

A new mental health unit has been inaugurated at the regional hospital in Boké, Guinea, to provide specialized care for individuals suffering from mental disorders. Named after the local patriarch Niokoro Sanoussy Camara, the facility was officially opened on September 5, 2026.

The project is part of the ‘Access to Healthcare for the Vulnerable in Guinea’ initiative, led by the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene in partnership with Fraternité Médicale Guinée (FMG) and MEMISA Belgium. The goal of the unit is to reduce therapeutic gaps, inequalities, and the social stigma associated with mental health issues by offering dignified, local care.

Representatives from the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Belgian Ambassador to Guinea, Olivier Kino, attended the ceremony. The Belgian government provided support for the project, highlighting the importance of investing in Guinea’s human capital.
