Bokakhat fire destroys five commercial establishments in Assam

A massive fire broke out late Thursday night in Barjuri, near Bokakhat in Assam’s Golaghat district, destroying five commercial establishments. The blaze is estimated to have caused property damage exceeding 70 lakh rupees.

Preliminary reports suggest the fire originated in Suraj Basake’s computer shop. The fire spread rapidly, consuming a salon owned by Naresh Thakur, a hotel owned by Tarun Karmakar, a betel shop, and a joint motorcycle repair garage operated by Ramen Das, Rinku Das, and Ajay Das. The repair garage suffered significant losses, including approximately 15 motorcycles intended for customer repairs.

Local witnesses reported hearing a loud noise before the fire spread. While fire department vehicles were dispatched to the scene, the blaze had already become uncontrollable by the time they arrived, leaving most goods completely destroyed. An official assessment of the exact cause and total damage is pending investigation.
