Slovenian Cup sees major upsets as top-tier clubs exit

The Slovenian Cup (Pokal Pivovarna Union) has seen a wave of significant upsets, with six top-flight clubs eliminated in the round of 32. Major teams including Olimpija, Maribor, Mura, Koper, Nafta, and defending champions Aluminij have all exited the competition.

Aluminij’s departure was particularly dramatic; after leading 2-0, the defending champions conceded two goals late in regulation to allow Brežice to force extra time. Brežice eventually secured a 4-2 victory, marking a major sensation for the second-league side. Koper was eliminated following a 1-0 loss to Tabor in Sežana, while Nafta was knocked out by Triglav in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.

In contrast, Bravo and Radomlje managed to advance. Bravo secured a dominant 7-0 victory over Velesovo-Cerklje to maintain their presence in the tournament.
