Boko Haram targets Borno APC governorship candidate's convoy

The convoy of Mustapha Gubio, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Borno State, was targeted in an attack by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Thursday. The incident occurred along the Kareto-Damasak axis in northern Borno while the candidate was returning from a visit to Damasak.

According to reports, the attack began when a police armored vehicle leading the convoy struck a landmine planted by insurgents on the highway. Following the explosion, attackers engaged the convoy with heavy gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades.

A combined security force—including the Nigerian Army, police, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF)—responded to the ambush. Security operatives successfully repelled the attackers and forced them to retreat. While the armored vehicle sustained severe damage, Gubio and his entourage escaped the encounter without casualties.
