Bokshi film release postponed to December following censorship review
The theatrical release of the folk-horror film Bokshi has been rescheduled from October 9 to December 4, 2026. The postponement follows a detailed certification review by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) regarding the film’s supernatural themes, depictions of witchcraft, and violence.
While the film has now been cleared with an ‘A’ (Adults Only) certificate, production house Lorien Motion Pictures stated that the delay allows the team more time to execute a full-scale theatrical campaign and ensure a seamless rollout.
Directed by Bhargav Saikia in his feature debut, the multilingual film stars Prasanna Bisht, Mansi Multani, and Siddharth Shaw. The story follows a teenager named Anahita who becomes entangled in a local legend during a school trip to a prehistoric site. Notably, the film features a fictional language called ‘Boksirit,’ developed by Dutch linguist Jan van Steenbergen. The project has previously screened at international venues including the International Film Festival Rotterdam and SXSW Sydney.
