BOL invalidates 933 speculative Kanye West concert tickets
The Portuguese ticketing platform BOL has invalidated 933 tickets for Kanye West’s recent concert in the Algarve to combat speculative resale. The operation targeted tickets being resold on platforms such as Viagogo, StubHub, TicketSwap, OLX, and Facebook, where prices had reportedly reached nearly double their original value.
Using proprietary technology, BOL was able to identify and invalidate the specific tickets before the event began at Estádio do Algarve. The invalidated tickets represented an estimated value between 250,000 and 350,000 euros. The company stated that this large-scale application of their intervention technology aims to protect consumers from artificially inflated prices and provide promoters with greater control over ticket circulation.
Sara Gonçalves, BOL’s director of operations, noted that the success of this operation demonstrates the technology's potential to be replicated in other markets to address widespread issues within the ticketing industry.
