Tinubu inaugurates APC campaign council for 2027 elections
President Bola Tinubu has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja to begin preparations for the 2027 general elections. The council includes Vice-President Kashim Shettima as vice-chairman and former Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari as director-general. Other notable members include Nyesom Wike, who is tasked with coordinating campaigns in Rivers State and the Federal Capital Territory.
During the inauguration, Tinubu emphasized that his primary focus must remain on governance and meeting the nation's economic responsibilities, including international financial obligations. He informed council members that he would not attend every campaign rally to ensure that the administration's duties are not neglected. The APC has released a nationwide rally schedule, with the official flag-off set for October 24, 2026, in Kaduna.
In a related security directive, Tinubu instructed security agency chiefs to ensure a safe, neutral, and credible environment for future elections and ordered intensified operations to dismantle terrorist and bandit camps across Nigeria.
