Tinubu urges West African medical experts to tackle brain drain
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called on medical professionals across West Africa to develop sustainable solutions to the growing challenge of medical brain drain. Speaking at the State House in Abuja, Tinubu noted that the migration of skilled healthcare workers to other countries places immense pressure on regional healthcare systems, limits access to essential services, and increases the workload for remaining personnel.
The President’s remarks followed his induction as a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (WACP). The fellowship was awarded in recognition of his administration’s efforts toward healthcare reforms and medical development in Nigeria. Tinubu urged the WACP leadership to utilize its upcoming conference to address the migration crisis and strengthen disease control measures, particularly in light of public health threats like Ebola.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to comprehensive health sector reforms aimed at making healthcare more accessible, affordable, and efficient. He also commended the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Muhammad Ali Pate, for his role in driving these reforms.
