Bola Tinubu's FBI records are not criminal files, says Reno Omokri

Reno Omokri, Nigeria’s Ambassador-designate to several Latin American nations, has defended President Bola Tinubu against allegations regarding his FBI records. Omokri clarified that the existence of files within the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) database does not equate to a criminal record.

Omokri argued that such records often consist of non-criminal, sensitive personal information—including biometric data, DNA, and financial details—generated through routine background screenings for US visas and immigration. He maintained that President Tinubu has no criminal record in Nigeria, the United States, or any other country.

Furthermore, Omokri dismissed reports claiming the FBI had submitted criminal records concerning the President to a US federal judge, labeling such claims as misleading. He cited a 2003 instance where then-Inspector-General of Police Tafa Balogun sought information from the US Embassy regarding Tinubu to support his position that no criminal history exists.
