Bolivia: AI-generated deepfakes target President Rodrigo Paz

Artificial intelligence is being used to spread disinformation involving Bolivian President Rodrigo Paz and former presidential advisor Fernando Cerimedo.

Digital investigations have confirmed that a widely circulated photograph depicting Paz and Cerimedo alongside their respective partners, Bibi Urquidi and Natalia Basil, was generated using AI. Tools such as OpenAI’s watermark detection and reverse image searches revealed that the image was constructed using original, separate photographs of the individuals from different time periods.

Additionally, a video circulating on TikTok, which purports to show Cerimedo making accusations against President Paz following his arrest, has been identified as fake. The video, which gained significant engagement, falsely depicts Cerimedo requesting searches of the President’s residence. In reality, the footage was manipulated; original recordings of Cerimedo’s transfer to a judicial hearing show him making no such statements. Cerimedo was recently apprehended in connection with an alleged attack on lawyer Nadia Beller Delgadillo.
