Bolivia and Brazil agree to study road corridor from San Ignacio de Velasco to Mato Grosso

The governments of Bolivia and Brazil signed a cooperation agreement in San Ignacio de Velasco to launch technical studies for a 129‑kilometre road linking the Bolivian town to the Brazilian municipality of Vila Bela da Santíssima Trindade in Mato Grosso. President Rodrigo Paz of Bolivia and Mato Grosso Governor Mauro Mendes, along with regional officials and private‑sector representatives, attended the ceremony.

The proposed corridor aims to improve year‑round transport across the rainy season, lower logistics costs and create a customs post at the border. By connecting the Atlantic and Pacific trade routes, the route is expected to boost the region’s agricultural, forest and cattle production, facilitate access to international markets and strengthen the broader bio‑ceanic logistics network.

Stakeholders anticipate that the new link will benefit agribusiness exporters, especially fertilizer and soy producers, and stimulate investment in the Chiquitania region’s economic development.
