Bolivia and Chile push border modernization and digital trade controls

At the XVIII meeting of the Bolivia‑Chile Border and Integration Committee, officials including Bolivia’s customs chief Alberto Soto presented advances in modernising key crossing points – Tambo Quemado–Chungará, Pisiga–Colchane and Ollagüe–Hito Cajón – and strengthening coordination to combat contraband.

The parties outlined a roadmap that includes a binational study of dispatch times, implementation of the Sintia Nexus system, adoption of digital signatures, and greater interoperability of customs IT systems, all supported by Inter‑American Development Bank financing under the “Conexión Sur” programme.
