Bolivia: Brazilian national dies after police operation in Pando

A Brazilian national, Matheus Campaneruti Pinheiro, died at Hospital Messuti in Bolivia following a police operation in the Marapani community, located in the Pando department near Cobija.

According to preliminary reports from Bolivian authorities, the incident began on Thursday night when police attempted to detain Pinheiro, who was allegedly wanted by Brazilian justice for various crimes. During the encounter, Pinheiro reportedly fired shots at officers and was wounded. Following his initial detention, he managed to escape into a wooded area, prompting a search by security forces. He was later located and re-detained, but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday afternoon.

Bolivian authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the police approach, the exchange of gunfire, and the escape attempt.
