Bolivia clears national road blockades as ABC launches maintenance on Montero ring road

On June 23, 2026 Bolivia’s road network became fully open after more than 50 days of social conflicts that blocked key routes. The Administradora Boliviana de Carreteras (ABC) reported that no blockades remain, restoring free transit for heavy and passenger vehicles across the country. The normalization followed negotiations that lifted blockades in the Cochabamba, Oruro and La Paz regions and an agreement signed by departmental authorities.

ABC has also begun preliminary maintenance work on the Montero ring road, a segment of the national fundamental road network that had been flagged for accident risk by transporters, mototaxi unions and local students. Supervisor Alex Navarro said the work will be intensified now that material supplies are restored after the blockades, and that similar repairs are planned for the Montero‑Guabirá and Montero‑Warnes double‑track highways.
