Bolivia conducts nationwide teacher promotion exam with 70,000 participants

On Saturday, July 18, 2026, Bolivia's Ministry of Education administered the national Examen de Ascenso de Categoría, allowing roughly 70,000 teachers from the nine departments to sit for the merit‑based promotion test. The written exam ran smoothly from 09:00 to 11:10 in venues across the country, including the Coliseo Julio Borelli Viteritto in La Paz where Minister Erick Sanjinés Chávez greeted about 5,000 examinees.

In Oruro, 3,255 educators gathered at the Palacio de los Deportes “Eduardo Leclere Polo” under the supervision of departmental education director Germán Cardozo Olguín, who emphasized strict entry requirements and prohibited electronic devices to ensure transparency. Officials highlighted that the process “dignifies the teaching profession and translates into a direct salary improvement for the magisterio,” aiming to strengthen the quality of Bolivia's education system through meritocracy, transparency and equity.
