Bolivia crackdown sees at least 7 killed, 500 detained, reports say

A report released by Feministas del Abya Yala and popular communicators documented severe human‑rights violations during the Bolivian government's crackdown on popular protests. The investigation recorded at least seven protesters killed, around forty injured and more than 500 detentions, including 365 in La Paz and El Alto, with 22 people still imprisoned.

The report highlights the involvement of the paramilitary Union Juvenil Cruceñista (UJC), armed with machetes and firearms, in clearing blockades, looting homes and committing sexual violence, often protected by police and the local civic committee. Testimonies also describe racism against Indigenous women and attacks on LGTBI people. The investigators conducted 35 interviews across Santa Cruz, Cochabamba, La Paz, El Alto and San Julián, collecting over 150 complaints from peasants, youth, feminist and sexual‑minority groups.
