Bolivia endures diesel shortages and long fuel queues as YPFB reforms

Drivers in Potosí report waiting up to ten hours at gasoline stations, despite YPFB’s announcements of increased fuel distribution. The prolonged queues affect both public transport and private vehicles, causing loss of work hours and growing frustration among motorists.

President Rodrigo Paz acknowledged ongoing diesel supply problems, stating that gasoline availability has improved but diesel distribution remains unreliable. He said YPFB will implement operational changes from the ground up to address delivery bottlenecks. The diesel shortage is disrupting transport of goods, including pharmaceuticals, and is adding pressure to Bolivia’s economy, which is already strained by limited foreign currency, a rising exchange rate, and heavy reliance on imported fuels.
