Bolivia establishes technical committee to draft new Mining Code

The Bolivian government has officially established a Technical Committee to draft a preliminary project for a new Mining Code. This initiative aims to modernize the nation's mining sector by creating a regulatory framework that is efficient, durable, and capable of responding to current global demands, such as the energy transition and the demand for critical minerals.

The committee includes national authorities and representatives from major productive mining actors, as well as the Confederation of United Peasant Workers of Bolivia (CSUTCB). The goal is to develop a legislative proposal that provides legal certainty, agile procedures, a new institutional structure, and environmental protections to attract the capital and technology necessary for productive development.

Experts note that for Bolivia to remain competitive, the regulatory framework must move beyond simply acknowledging geological wealth. Success will depend on providing operational predictability and reducing administrative risks to manage the long-term investment horizons typical of the mining industry.
