Bolivia explores sustainable construction and industrialization through international cooperation

In Santa Cruz, the 'Bolivia Construye Más Verde' initiative recently connected entrepreneurs, university students, and industry leaders to promote circular economy practices and sustainable construction. Organized by the Bolivian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK Bolivia) and Habitat for Humanity Bolivia, with European Union funding, the event showcased prototypes and services aimed at increasing efficiency in the building sector.

Separately, discussions in La Paz focused on the potential for industrializing Bolivia through the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative. Experts and diplomats analyzed how to transition from exporting raw materials to producing high-value manufactured goods. Key projects mentioned include the Ivirizu hydroelectric plant and the Mutún steel complex, which aims to produce 200,000 tons of steel annually. Bilateral trade between Bolivia and China reached $4.2 billion, with over 120 Chinese companies currently operating in the country.
