Bolivia faces diesel shortage threatening winter harvest

The Bolivian Association of Oilseed and Wheat Producers (ANAPO) warned that a diesel supply shortfall jeopardises the upcoming winter agricultural campaign. ANAPO manager Jaime Hernández said current fuel deliveries are insufficient for small, medium and large growers, whose combined demand for the season is about 90 million litres. Approximately 950,000 hectares of sorghum, maize, wheat, sunflower and chia have already been planted, with another 400,000 hectares of soy in progress, all requiring continuous diesel for field operations. Hernández urged authorities to resolve the fuel‑supply issue urgently, warning that continued shortages could harm crop yields, food production and the broader agribusiness sector in the coming months.
