Bolivia humanitarian convoy delivers aid to truck drivers stranded by road blockades
Since mid‑May, road blockades in Bolivia have left around 500 heavy‑truck drivers stranded for more than 45 days, causing food, water and medical shortages, health problems and economic losses estimated at $3‑4 million per day.
In response, the Defensoría del Pueblo coordinated a humanitarian convoy together with the Bolivian Red Cross, Caritas Bolivia and the Catholic Church. The convoy, consisting of six vehicles and several ambulances marked with white flags, set out from La Paz, traveling via Patacamaya and Santiago de Callapa toward Tambo Quemado.
The mission carries food staples, medicines, water, basic clothing and bedding, aiming to assist at least 500 drivers between Caracollo and Tambo Quemado. Representatives appealed to the blockading protesters to allow safe passage so the aid can reach the stranded families.
