Bolivia launches humanitarian caravan for 500+ transporters stuck in road blockades

A humanitarian caravan organized by the Defensoría del Pueblo, together with the Red Cross and the Catholic Church, will depart on Monday to deliver food, medicines, supplies and shelter to more than 500 truck drivers stranded by road blockades in the Caracollo and Tambo Quemado corridors. The aid, supported by YPFB’s fuel provision, will also reach the remote sectors of Konani and Desaguadero that have previously been inaccessible.

In parallel, a “humanitarian pause” announced by community leaders allowed a large column of trucks on the Patacamaya‑Tambo Quemado route to resume travel, although other sections of the international road to Chile remain blocked. The protests, now in their 43rd day, involve campesinos, the Central Obrera Boliviana and supporters of ex‑president Evo Morales, who demand the resignation of President Rodrigo Paz.
