Bolivia plans to consolidate railway network and Bioceanic Corridor

Bolivia is working to consolidate its railway network and the Bioceanic Corridor to integrate its Eastern and Andean networks. During the Railway Summit in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, officials outlined a roadmap to overcome decades of structural disconnection between these two systems.

To ensure feasibility, the Ministry of Public Works has proposed a new route through the south of the country, connecting El Palmar in Chuquisaca with Valcarce in Potosí. This 400-kilometer path is intended to replace a previous, more expensive proposal through Cochabamba, which was deemed unviable due to high costs and social conflicts. The government views this strategic shift as a way to boost regional logistics, employment, and competitiveness.
