Bolivia President Rodrigo Paz inaugurates Taypichaca Dam, securing water for 846,880 people

The Bolivian government officially handed over the Taypichaca Dam in Pucarani, La Paz Department, in a ceremony led by President Rodrigo Paz and Development Minister Oscar Mario Justiniano. The infrastructure, financed with about 40.9 billion bolivianos from the Inter‑American Development Bank, is designed to provide potable water to roughly 846,880 inhabitants (about 154,550 families) in the municipalities of Batallas, Pucarani and El Alto, and to irrigate around 7,000 hectares of agricultural land.

The event featured a traditional Pachamama ritual and the launch of rural electrification works and social‑housing construction for thousands of families. President Paz warned that blockades harm producers, citing a recent 53‑day blockage that disrupted dairy output, and called for dialogue to resolve conflicts. He also announced the forthcoming passage of a new mining law aimed at boosting investment while ensuring royalties stay in La Paz and benefit public services such as roads, schools and hospitals.
