Bolivia probes union leader Claudio Choque with false arrest claim and arrests ex‑YPFB manager Carlos Cuéllar

Bolivia's Attorney General's Office clarified that a widely circulated arrest warrant targeting Claudio Javier Choque Quispe, the secretary‑general of the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB), was fabricated. The document, allegedly dated 19 May 2026 and signed by the Ministry of Public, listed charges such as public incitement to crime and terrorism, but the prosecutor’s communication confirmed it was not authentic and urged the public not to share the false file.

In a separate investigation, former YPFB senior executive Carlos Alfredo Cuéllar Pinto was detained in Santa Cruz on 3 June 2026. He faces charges of breach of duties and anti‑economic conduct in connection with a case involving destabilised gasoline. Prosecutor Johan Muñoz stated that Cuéllar will be presented before a judge, noting he is the first high‑level official arrested in the scandal. The arrest follows earlier statements by Cuéllar acknowledging knowledge of poor fuel quality and requesting the information be kept private.
