Bolivia proposes wage increase negotiations for 2027

The Bolivian government has announced plans to initiate negotiations for a wage increase in 2027. Óscar Navarro, the Vice Minister of the Treasury and Public Credit, stated that the goal is to help workers recover or maintain their purchasing power following the economic impact of rising fuel costs and the removal of diesel subsidies.

Currently, the national minimum wage stands at Bs 3,300. The proposed negotiations, expected to begin in early 2027, will involve the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) and other relevant sectors. The government's decision comes in response to rising living costs and recent inflation data from the National Institute of Statistics (INE), which reported a 12-month accumulated inflation rate of 5.70%.

While the government views the increase as necessary for family stability, economic analysts have cautioned that wage hikes without corresponding productivity gains may not provide long-term relief for purchasing power. Additionally, there are concerns regarding the potential impact on inflation and the national fiscal deficit.
