Bolivia protests intensify, demand President Rodrigo Paz's resignation

Neighborhood councils and labor groups in Bolivia gathered a massive cabildo in El Alto and La Paz, rejecting any government‑initiated dialogue and reaffirming their demand that President Rodrigo Paz step down. The assemblies, joined by the Central Obrera Boliviana (COB) and other social organisations, declared a state of emergency and pledged to maintain blockades across seven departments.

More than thirty days of protests have led to around 90 road closures, severe shortages of food and fuel in La Paz and El Alto, and long queues at fuel stations. The demonstrations have also targeted legislative proposals such as the anti‑blockade law and privatisation initiatives. Leaders like COB secretary Mario Argollo participated after a previously issued arrest warrant was lifted, but negotiations with the executive have not materialised.
