Bolivia pushes to reactivate 8,900 infrastructure projects across regions

The government of Bolivia is moving to restart thousands of infrastructure works to boost economic activity. In Oruro, the regional governor reported efforts to reactivate stalled road projects such as the Caracollo‑Cañahuma highway, Curahuara de Carangas and Sabaya routes, and the double‑track Challapata stretch. Officials highlighted financial challenges, including nearly a billion bolivianos in agreements with the national road agency and more than one hundred million bolivianos of counterpart obligations, as well as the need for contract modifications to cover rising material costs.

President Luis Paz (named in the report) announced that the country has 8,900 works slated for delivery or initiation and outlined a four‑pillar development strategy: the “50/50” plan to balance productive capacity and regional decentralisation, “Capitalism for All” to ease investment and credit access, the “State Tranca” initiative to cut bureaucracy, and a “Bolivia in the World” agenda to open new markets and attract foreign investment.
