Bolivia reduces number of ministries from 14 to 12

The government of President Rodrigo Paz has officially reduced the number of ministries in Bolivia from fourteen to twelve through Supreme Decree 5675. The decree aims to modernize, simplify, and digitally transform the state power structure while establishing the organization of the national Executive Branch.

The restructuring involves the suppression of the Ministry of Development Planning and the Ministry of Sustainable Tourism, Culture, Folklore, and Gastronomy. While a National Agency for Tourism, Folklore, and Gastronomy was previously mentioned, the decree instead establishes the Vice Ministry of Sustainable Tourism and Cultures under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Other entities, such as the National Symphony Orchestra and the Bolivian Film and Audiovisual Development Agency (Adecine), have also been placed under the jurisdiction of the Foreign Ministry.

Under the new organization, three ministries concentrate the most power, each managing five vice ministries: the Ministry of the Presidency, led by Fernando Aramayo; the Ministry of Economy and Public Finance, led by José Gabriel Espinoza; and the Ministry of Sustainable Production, Environment, and Water, led by Óscar Mario Justiniano. Additionally, the decree allows the president to appoint presidential delegates to coordinate specific projects of national interest.
