Bolivia reinforces security in San Ignacio de Velasco

Bolivian authorities have announced a significant reinforcement of security measures in San Ignacio de Velasco, Santa Cruz, following recent violent incidents that resulted in four deaths within a 24-hour period.

Minister of Government Marco Antonio Oviedo and Minister of Defense Ernesto Justiniano have coordinated a response involving the National Police, the Armed Forces, and local authorities. The initiative includes the implementation of the Integral Citizen Security Plan and the creation of an elite police unit dedicated to patrolling San Ignacio, San Matías, and the entire border region with Brazil.

Recent operations have already led to the apprehension of seven individuals, including six Brazilian citizens and one Bolivian adolescent, along with the seizure of weapons, ammunition, and motorcycles. The government aims to move away from temporary interventions toward a sustainable model of security that integrates civil society, local authorities, and national security forces to protect the Chiquitana border region.
