Bolivia reports growth in seed production and Potosi exports
Bolivia has achieved significant milestones in both its agricultural and mining sectors. The national seed industry now produces over 90% of the country's domestic demand, a major shift from the 1980s when the nation was entirely dependent on imports. Pedro Pellegrino, president of the Association of Seed Producers (Asosemillas), stated that Bolivian genetics are now being exported to more than 18 countries across the Andean region, Africa, and Asia, specifically targeting corn, sorghum, and sunflower markets.
In the mining sector, the department of Potosi has solidified its position as Bolivia's leading exporter. Between January and September 2026, Potosi's exports reached 4,011.1 million dollars, representing a 65.5% increase compared to the same period in 2025. This growth, which accounts for 38.8% of total national exports, is driven largely by high international metal prices. Specifically, mineral extraction exports grew by 41.3% in September, with silver and zinc exports seeing significant increases.
